- Provide options on how to learn.

- Opportunities for meaningful application.
- Do not require learners to keep more than a few items in memory at a time.
- Give opportunities for application & consolidation.
- Ask people to summarize or abstract.

- Never bury something crucial in the middle.
- Show organization visually: org chart, flow chart, etc.
- Avoid paragraphs longer than 3 sentences
- Provide multiple ways for people to learn crucial ideas.

- the learner's attention is grabbed sufficiently at the beginning of the piece – i.e. WIFM
- the content is relevant for the intended audience

- there is sufficient construvtive feedback throughout and at the end of the learning to make the learner feel that the exercise was worthwhile and they have learned something/
