Spotted a new feature, if you follow certain links from emails they can create a calendar event for you. Following the links from this GCal email pops up the new event window – in this scenario its useless but there might be uses for confirmation emails, reminders or even promos. Wonder if it’s using Rich Snippets or mail.app is scraping the information…

(follow a link from GCal reminders – yes I’m getting carpets fitted!)

UPDATE – looks like mail.app is just reading the URLs in the email – the links point to www.google.com/calendar/event?action=view and are then presented in calendar.app rather than on the web. Very neat.

2am. Paris

After a two hour delay in Bordeaux we have finally made it to Paris. As I write we are crossing the Seine and I can see the Eiffel Tower.

Our hotel is somewhere in the north, near Montmartre and Eurostar. Should be there soon for a bit of a kip

So far, a hire car, two taxis and a coach have got us to a bizarre little town in France.

Only some expert persuasion tactics from Becky (waterworks, drama, the full works) got us on this train as French railways are extra busy due to a strike.

The 45 minutes spent stood in a queue were the most excruciating I’ve ever had. Only 10 people in front but every transaction felt as if the customer service and customer were sharing life stories. For Gervais fans, the closest pain approximation is the David Bowie scene.

So were sat in the aisle as far as Bordeaux then changing to Paris, arriving at midnight.

Next step is to book a hotel in Paris – the hotelsbyme app is hopefully going to help us out!
